ISO Certification in India

What is ISO – ISO Stands for International Standards of Organization. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the specialized international agency for the standardization, at present comprising of 162 national standards bodies, including India. It has its Central Secretariat at Geneva Switzerland that coordinates the system. Thus, ISO  is an international standard that specifies the requirements for quality management of an organization.

As ‘International Organization for Standardization’ would have different abbreviations in different languages (‘lOS’ in English, ‘OIN ’ in French for Organisation Internationale de Normalisation), it was decided at the outset to use a word derived from the Greek ISOS, meaning ‘equal’. Therefore, whatever the country, whatever the language, the short form of the organization’s name is always ISO.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a non-governmental system of national agencies whose resolution is the advancement of universal standards for government and business. Global standards are planned for trade between nations. They deliver a technical base and an arrangement of the best management practices. Measures guarantee safe organizational techniques and products that lessen the ecological effect. ISO Standards advantage business and trade by abridging procedures and decreasing an association’s environmental risk. Consumers are also advantaged by learning that best in class practices are thus created for worldwide relevancy.

Need for ISO: –One may wonder why there is a need for an organisation like ISO? Irrespective of the fact whether a concern is large or small, in order to compete in the market one has to deliver quality & ISO ensures quality.

  1. Since, there is increased focus on quality issues worldwide; therefore various standards developing organizations have prepared standards & guidelines in the quality field.
  2. Although there were similarities among the many standards, the quality picture became quite cloudy. Terms such as Quality Management, Quality Control, Quality System, Quality Assurance and Quality Policy, have acquired different, & sometimes conflicting meaning from country to country, within a country, and even within an industry.
